The Problem With Facebook Marketplace

There’s more than over one billion people that buy and sell on Facebook Marketplace.

And that’s part of the problem.

When think of scams – they generally associate thid with sellers on the marketplace. I can attest that there are just as many scammers that profess to be buyers on the site.

I’ll approach this from a seller’s point of view. Here is a few things I experience daily:

Buyers think they can name their own price, make an offer and you as a seller, are obligated to accept it in. This is ridiculous and completely unacceptable. The fact they get offended is borderline insanity.

I do not accept Facebook payments due to many issues I have experienced in the past. I accept Paypal and Venmo. Bother buyer and seller protections but think I am obligated to use Facebook for payment.

For some reason, when people make payments for shipping orders they seem to forget to send their shipping address. It can be like pulling teeth to get them to reply with their address. Then they start complaining when they don’t get their item in a timely manner.

I run into a ton of buyers that will almost insist they’ve sent payment and demand their item. However 99% of the time they have not sent payment and are simply trying to scam you.

For local pickups, good luck getting someone to show up.

But that is just the short version of the many issues a seller can experience on the Facebook Marketplace.
